I decided to study the simple wonder of an empty espresso cup, with two slightly different angles of the same cup. As always, I'm surprised to find so many subtle colors within the depths of the porcelain. These are some nice little paintings, and one of these days I'll actually make a plan to keep one of these studies for myself.

I finished a few more very small paintings after the conclusion of the holiday promotion. Some of these were commissions and special orders, and a few were just for the fun of it. I gained a great education in reflections from this series, and I'll be excited to see how it all translates to a larger scale as I start on my new studies for spring.

Over a week after returning from our trip, I'm still not over jetlag. Exhaustion kicks in at 6pm, and I'm watching the stars moving through the branches of the tree outside the bedroom window at 4am. Powerful cups of espresso don't seem to equalize the balance of night and day, but that didn't stop me from carving out this little study of the iconic Illy espresso cup.

I finished this study of a cup of espresso last night, but the light had already faded before I could capture a final image. The depth of the porcelain surface is revealing an exciting new course of study. And espresso is an exciting way to make an exciting new day even more fresh and exciting and full of excitement. Ah, taste the excitement!
