A Yellow Apple

On the heels of finishing a big and bold and bright painting of pink tulips, I decided to carve out a quick small study of a single yellow apple. The day was fairly dim and grey in the fading light of an all day snowfall, but I did manage to find some bold and lively colors.

Assorted piles of apples and peppers and dead sunflowers were left over from the weekend, so I carved out a small study of a yellow apple. It's an almost neon yellow that glows from the darkness of the late afternoon light.

With the colors left over from today's landscape study, I did a dark little rendering of a single yellow apple. A few years ago I would explore how much darkness and color really was in my arrangements, and after working with muted and dark colors all day I decided to see how dark things could really be. It's amazing, it just never ends.
